Jan 6 is #Epiphany where Europeans celebrate the visit of the Three Kings (Magi). This is #Galette #pastry (apple or almond filling) which is traditional French since Roman times. The pastry is cut in slices with 1 extra slice for the poor man passing by. The youngest sits under the table because he is the “most innocent” (ha! Not in our household!). He announces who can choose the next slice. There is a lucky charm called La Fève hidden in the pastry. (Last year’s is pictured on to of the pastry as I didn’t want to photograph the Galette hacked apart.) He who finds La Fève is King for the day and wears the paper crown that comes with the pastry. In our home, the King can demand 1 wish from everyone on that day. Usually the youngest bursts into years when he loses and we have to rig another cake a few days later just for him ;)
Cat+Mouse & Tara
Meet Tara Feener, a software engineer at FiftyThree and one of my favorite people to work with. In addition to being the driving force behind our Making FiftyThree blog and builder of beautiful web experiences, like our Pencil product page, Tara loves seeking out unique ways that our community of creators use Paper.
Earlier this year, Tara came across Cat+Mouse, a series of adorable illustrations inspired by everyday fashion. Ever since, C+M has become a daily web destination for Tara and me. I knew a sketch of Tara by Cat would be the perfect thing to surprise her with this Christmas.
